Guru Bala's life started as a student of Kuchipudi under the guidance of Padma Bhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam who is considered to be a legend. The power of her dedication to dance is that as an artist she makes the audience merge with the performer. In the words of Pedda Maste Garu (Padma Bhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam) , "Bala is the first and foremost in transforming stones to statues". Well known as Bala Akka for most of her students, Bala Akka feels that her conducting sessions in "Kuchipudi Refreshment Classes" for the Gurus in Kuchipudi Village satisfied her immensely. Bala Prior to establishing her own School "Kuchipudi Kala Kendram" , she worked as the Principal of Kuchipudi Kalakshetram founded by Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam. Bala Akka played major roles in Guru Dr. Vempati’s dance ballets. Bala akka's name is synonymous with perfection of the dance as such.

It was under her able assistance that the Kuchipudi Art Academy has produced some of the most notable Kuchipudi artistes today. In spite of playing major roles in the above mentioned ballets and other ballets, Bala Akka toured extensively and had given numerous solo programs all across the world as well. She has students from wide and far, from many countries like USA, UK, France, Italy, Gerany, Australia, Russia and Nepal. She choreographed approximately eighty solo items and 8 dance ballets so far (listed below).

Bala Akka believes Kuchipudi to be a Yoga, a Science, and a Math too, and that all forms like music, sculpture, literature, physical exercise are encompassed in Kuchipudi Dance. She is the founder and Director of "Kuchipudi Kala Kendram", Visakhapatnam. Her focus is on inculcating discipline, perfection, values and tradition, heritage, with love and affection.
